What would it look like if Columbus tried to cap their highways?  I love this idea… “I’ve long advocated for capping the entire “Split” project with a new contemporary, urban park that would ring downtown Columbus on the east and south ends. These two segments of downtown have long been disconnected from their adjoining neighborhoods by the highway. The cavernous trench that I-70/71 creates destroys the fabric of downtown and disconnects the Near East and German Village from contributing their urban-ness to the rest of downtown.” The park would have the same effect as the highway. If you want to connect it’s ‘urbanness’, a river of park will do nothing to help the flow. It would just be a moat. Grassing everything is not what you want to do. That is potentially very VERY valuable land that would then be useless and divisive.
